What's the maximum you're willing to pay -- not including room and board? Cost is an important consideration, but don't rule out a college because of it until you've explored your financing options. Most colleges work to ensure that academically qualified students from every economic circumstance can find enough financial aid to attend.
What criteria do you want colleges to use in awarding aid? There are two types of aid to make up the difference between what college costs and what you can afford. One is based solely on your achievement in an area -- such as sports -- and doesn't factor in your financial situation. That's called "non-need based aid." The other does factor in your demonstrated financial need. That's called "need-based aid."
